Dynamic flexion abduction orthosis is used to treat DDH in infants up to 6 months of age.
Harness usually leads to stability of reduced hip within 4 wks.
but its use should be continued until a clinical exam & X-rays of the hip are normal.
DDH-Developmental dislocation of the hip.
DDH involves displacement of the femoral head from the acetabulum (during the perinatal period) which disrupts the normal development of the hip joint.
DDH is estimated to occur in 1 – 1.5 cases per 1000 live births.)

The Hip Abduction Brace is a lightweight pediatric orthosis with a frame that is manufactured from sturdy polypropylene and a closed-cell hypo-allergenic foam liner that does not retain moisture.
This orthosis maintains a concentric reduction of hips in patients with dysplasia.
The product can replace spica casts and harnesses for certain developmental dysplasia patients.

Wear and Care Guide:

Your doctor/orthopedist has prescribed this brace to assist with a particular condition. As the treatment can vary from case to case your doctor or orthopedist will provide specific information about:

Applying your Orthosis
Weaning (Acclimatization) schedule to achieve optimum hours of daily wearing (if applicable).
Duration of use
Acceptable activities
Activities to avoid
Who to contact in case of a problem

Cleaning your Orthosis:

It is important to clean the orthosis on a daily basis. For best results use rubbing alcohol. Alternatively use a soapy cloth and rinse with a damp cloth and towel dry.
Always check your orthosis before putting it back on to ensure that it is undamaged and free from dirt.

Skin Care:

It is very important to prevent skin breakdown (sore, red, raw skin). The skin underneath the orthosis needs to be toughened up, especially where the orthosis applies the most pressure.

Pay special attention to pink areas of the skin where orthosis pressure is highest.
For children wearing a diaper (nappy), the brace is fitted over the diaper (nappy).
This brace can be worn over clothing such as tights, tracksuit bottoms, leggings, etc.
If skin irritation/breakdown persists, contact your fitter or clinic for advice.
